 Project Description One-Two Sentences
Advance Planning Design The UNC Chapel Hill's Department of Comparative Medicine (DCM) and School of Medicine (SOM) are renovating and expanding BSL3 suites at the Burnett-Womack building to allow UNC to bring together investigators working on emerging and re-emerging infections, to enable access to specialized equipment for supporting high containment research, and to create institution-wide core space for the recruitment of new investigators in the infectious disease research community by increasing usable laboratory space in BSL3 facilities, and installing new equipment that will serve investigators within the many UNC centers, institutes, and departments. This project will reconfigure approximately 5,000 square feet of the 13,900 square foot floor plate, and renovate portions of the remainder of the ninth floor of Burnett-Womack to create an approximately 10,000-sf BSL3 containment suite. A Preproposal meeting will be held by Facilities Planning via ZOOM on 12/18/2025 at 3:00pm. Interested lead Architectural firms and consulting Engineering firms should contact UNC Facilities Planning for a copy of the full Project Brief and the Zoom Link contained therein.
