 Project Description One-Two Sentences
Construction on Memorial Hall was completed in 1931 to serve as a performance venue to replace the original Memorial Hall that was demolished in 1930. This project will follow an advanced planning phase that was completed in the spring of 2025. The existing plaster ceiling and localized areas of the wall plaster are damaged and falling due to previous roof leaks. A roof replacement project was completed in early 2025. Lead paint and asbestos testing of the existing ceiling has been completed and those tests returned negative results. The goal of the project is to provide architecturally sensitive repair techniques that are appropriate for both the curved and flat plaster ceiling. Any new materials will be specified to be compatible with and to match the existing. Painting of the ceiling and associated trim for a durable finish that is sensitive to the decorative details and historic space. UNC CH is seeking a design firm to provide full design services, including the preparation of construction documents, submission to State Construction Office for code review, overseeing the bidding process and providing construction administration services through the completion of construction and closeout.
