Public Records Request Resources
As an agency of the state of North Carolina, the University of North Carolina System Office is required to respond to requests for public records made under the North Carolina Public Records Act. Although the Office of the President, Communications, Human Resources, and Legal Affairs receive regular public records requests, other divisions receive them as well, and the responsibilities associated with receiving, gathering and reviewing documents, and ultimately responding to public records requests, applies across all divisions.
SUBMITTING A PUBLIC RECORDS REQUEST
The UNC System believes in public transparency and providing access to open records and public documents. Anyone may submit a public document request online.
Note: UNC System salary information is available and searchable online using the UNC System Salary Database. This database makes it easy for everyone to access University employee salaries without submitting a public records request. If you are requesting salary information that is already available online, you will be directed to the salary database.
Requesters for public document should submit detailed requests in writing through the UNC System Office public records portal. To minimize processing time, we encourage requesters to be as specific as possible in identifying the information being sought and during what period of time.
