 Project Description One-Two Sentences
A Pre-Proposal Meeting will be held for the Alfonso Elder Student Union Renovation project for Architectural Advance Planning services on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at 10:00 am. The meeting will be held at: North Carolina Central University Hubbard-Totton Building 1801 Fayetteville Street Planning Room, First Floor, Room #113 Durham, NC 27707 North Carolina Central University will selectively upgrade the circa 1968 AE Student Union Renovation to create a modern, inclusive environment that enhances student engagement and operational efficiency as the program transitions to a One-Stop Student Services. The Phase 1 project focuses on selective upgrades to high-traffic areas, including new storefronts, drywall, finishes, equipment, lighting, and wayfinding elements, to enhance both aesthetics and functionality. Accessibility improvements will ensure compliance with ADA standards through enhanced paths, restrooms, and signage. Building systems will be optimized through HVAC and controls upgrades to improve comfort and energy efficiency, while window repair and weatherstripping/caulking will improve performance and sustainability. These improvements will deliver a One-Stop Student Services that is technologically advanced, accessible, and aligned with NCCU's mission to foster a vibrant campus experience. NCCU Capital Projects Management is prepared for selected designers for the advance planning to continue with the selected designer into the basic full design services phase. Current project authorization is for advance planning only. The selected firm may be retained through full design and construction at the University's option.
