North Carolina Central University will selectively upgrade
the circa 1968 AE Student Union Renovation to create a
modern, inclusive environment that enhances student
engagement and operational efficiency as the program
transitions to a One-Stop Student Services. The Phase 1
project focuses on selective upgrades to high-traffic areas,
including new storefronts, drywall, finishes, equipment,
lighting, and wayfinding elements, to enhance both
aesthetics and functionality. Accessibility improvements
will ensure compliance with ADA standards through enhanced
paths, restrooms, and signage. Building systems will be
optimized through HVAC and controls upgrades to improve
comfort and energy efficiency, while window repair and
weatherstripping/caulking will improve performance and
sustainability. These improvements will deliver a One-Stop
Student Services that is technologically advanced,
accessible, and aligned with NCCU's mission to foster a
vibrant campus experience. NCCU Capital Projects Management
is prepared for selected designers for the advance planning
to continue with the selected designer into the basic full
design services phase.
Current project authorization is for advance planning only.
The selected firm may be retained through full design and
construction at the University's option. | |
