NC Board of Governors Subcommittee on the 2022 O. Max Gardner Award will meet in regular session on Monday, February 14, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. In addition, the Subcommittee on Laboratory Schools will meet in regular session on Monday, February 14, 2022 at 1:00 p.m.

Fayetteville State University designated the first Purple Heart University in UNC System

The Military Order of the Purple Heart has designated Fayetteville State University (FSU) a Purple Heart University, making FSU the first university in the University of North Carolina System to receive the honor. The Purple Heart University designation is in recognition of FSU’s history of supporting veterans and their families.

UNC Board of Governors to meet in regular session on Nov. 18

The UNC Board of Governors will meet in regular session at the Hunt Library at North Carolina State University on Thursday, Nov. 18, 2021 at 9 a.m. A total of five committee meetings of the Board will be held starting on Wednesday, Nov. 17, 2021.

UNC System Awards Mental Health Grants to 12 Institutions

The University of North Carolina System Office has awarded $981,181 in grant funding to 12 UNC System institutions to increase behavioral health capacity and strengthen mental health resources available to students starting this fall.

PBS North Carolina Partners with the UNC System on The Innovators

NC A&T joins Duke, other major partners, in $20M Artificial Intelligence Center

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University is playing a critical role in the creation of Athena, a new artificial intelligence (AI) research center led by Duke University and including Yale, Massachusetts Institute of Technology and other prominent institutional partners. Funded by the National Science Foundation and the Department of Homeland Security, Athena is part of a $220 million investment in 11 AI research institutes engaging campuses in 40 states nationwide.

Elizabeth City State University, United Airlines Launch Partnership

Elizabeth City State University and United Airlines Aviate pilot career development program have partnered to train a new generation of pilots. On Friday, Aug. 27, on the ECSU campus, university officials will be joined by United Airlines representatives to launch a partnership that seeks to not only train future pilots, but also bring more women and people of color into the ranks of commercial aviation.

NC Education Leaders Address Increasing Statewide Teacher Pipeline

North Carolina education leaders signed an agreement Monday to address the critical teacher shortage in the state. President Thomas Stith of the North Carolina Community College System and President Peter Hans of the University of North Carolina System made a joint announcement of their new Comprehensive Articulation Agreement that will increase opportunities for community college students to transfer to teacher education programs within the UNC System. It is effective fall 2021.

New Fund Helps NC State Students Overcome COVID-19 Educational Impacts

The North Carolina GlaxoSmithKline Foundation has announced the creation of a Hardship Fund to increase its ongoing support of NC State’s Community College Collaboration (C3) program. This grant addendum will assist students in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) who have been financially impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
