Kevin M. FitzGerald

Mr. FitzGerald coordinates and oversees the administrative operations of General Administration.  In addition, he helps the president and his leadership team establish University priorities, identify important issues confronting UNC and develop policy recommendations and actions.  

Junius J. Gonzales
Interim President and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs | 919-962-4614
Dr. Gonzales leads the development and implementation of the academic mission of the University, including teaching, research, international programs and student affairs.  He advises the Board of Governors on academic affairs issues of University-wide importance; leads strategic academic planning and the implementation of resulting policies affecting the University; works closely with campus chancellors and chief academic officers on university-wide academic initiatives; works to maintain the focus of the missions of the campuses, and implements the academic portion of the long-range plan.  

Dr. Gonzales will serve as interim president of the University beginning January 4, 2016 to March 1, when President-Elect Margaret Spellings takes office.

Charlie Perusse
Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer | 919-962-4598
Mr. Perusse works collaboratively with the Board of Governors, key executives within NC state government, UNC-General Administration staff, and chief financial officers from the University's 17 campuses to accomplish strategic financial and operational priorities.  He also serves as a senior finance manager for UNC FIT, UNC-GA Services Office, Human Resources, Information Technology, and University Advancement offices.

Thomas Shanahan

Mr. Shanahan serves as general counsel for the University and oversees the Division of Legal Affairs.  He represents all members of the president's team, as well as the Board of Governors.  He assists individual campuses as needed, and provides leadership and training opportunities for campus legal counsel throughout the system.  His office is responsible for maintaining and overseeing changes to University policies.  He works closely with governmental affairs during legislative sessions.

Leslie Boney
Vice President for International, Community, and Economic Engagement | 919-843-7338
Mr. Boney coordinates University-wide efforts to internationalize campuses and affiliated organizations, to increase community service work, and to collaborate with economic development organizations and businesses in strengthening the state’s economy. He also works with the University’s research and sponsored programs to bolster technology transfer efforts.

Matthew Brody
Vice President of Human Resources | 919-962-4651
Mr. Brody works in collaboration with the senior human resource officers at the University's 17 campuses and the Office of State Personnel providing leadership and strategic direction for the delivery of human resource programs and services for University employees.  He provides strategic consultation and guidance to senior administration and ensures that the human resource function is aligned with the University's mission.  He oversees the development, supervision, and implementation of University-wide human resource policies and procedures.  

Christopher Brown

Dr. Brown promotes research and sponsored programs across the full spectrum of academic disciplines and interdisciplinary activities carried out by UNC’s 17 campuses. He helps advocate for increased levels of external support from federal, state and private sources and works closely with the senior vice president for Academic Affairs and campus research administrators to develop research and sponsored program activity to support the mission of each campus.

Alisa Chapman

Dr. Chapman responds to K-16 education system initiatives, policy implementation and legislation impacting teacher and school leader preparation and development throughout the University.

Joanna Carey Cleveland

Ms. Cleveland provides legal advice and Division of Legal Affairs leadership in a variety of areas, including employment law, student affairs, University policy development, and campus services.

Karrie Dixon

Dr. Dixon serves as the chief student affairs officer of the University, is principal investigator for the North Carolina College Access Challenge Grant, is a liaison between General Administration and UNC's 17 campuses on issues primarily related to University policies regarding financial aid, athletics, and student health, and is the primary education representative to the CFNC partnership.

Ann Lemmon

Ms. Lemmon provides all essential support for the work of the Board of Governors and its committees. She also provides professional staff assistance to the Committee on University Governance and serves as the president's liaison to the campus Boards of Trustees. Her primary duties include planning meetings of the Board of Governors, maintaining and certifying the official acts of the Board, ensuring compliance with legal requirements, orienting new Board members and contributing to their ongoing development, and facilitating communication between Board members, the president, senior administrators, and campus constituencies. 

John Leydon
Vice President for Information Resources and Chief Information Officer | 919-962-4908 
Mr. Leydon oversees planning and policy development for technologies that support the University’s instructional, research and public outreach activities. A representative to the MCNC Advisory Board, he provides the University perspective for the operation of the North Carolina Research and Education Network and he works with IT officials on the 17 UNC campuses to facilitate collaborative approaches to system-level technology issues. Mr. Leydon also works with the UNC Board of Governors, the president and other senior staff members to develop University IT policies and programs, and serves as UNC’s primary spokesperson on matters related to Information Technology.

Timothy Minor

Mr. Minor serves as chief advancement officer for the University and works collaboratively with the senior advancement officers of the 17 UNC institutions.  University Advancement supports the fundraising efforts of UNC and encourages private support for the president’s initiatives and priorities of the constituent institutions.  Mr. Minor provides experienced counsel and centralized functions as they relate to gifts, endowment management, compliance and stewardship, naming opportunities, estate and trust administration.

Drew Moretz

Mr. Moretz is the primary liaison between UNC and state government.  He works closely with the North Carolina General Assembly, the executive branch and related staff to advocate for University priorities. Other duties include developing and implementing the Board of Governors' state agenda, developing government relations strategy and advising the president and Board of Governors on all state legislative issues.

Jonathan Pruitt

Mr. Pruitt serves as chief financial officer and is responsible for the financial affairs of the UNC System and the finance and business affairs of UNC General Administration. In this role, he has primary responsibility for the development and execution of the UNC System’s unified budget, tuition and fees, capital construction, real estate, debt management, investments, efficiency and effectiveness initiatives, economic and financial analysis, and the business services of UNC General Administration. 

Matthew Rascoff

Mr. Rascoff leads online and blended learning at UNC, serving over 70,000 students who take courses online in 320 degree and certificate programs. He is responsible for the university’s learning innovation strategy, marketing, R&D, professional development, and student experience and outcomes.

Kimrey Rhinehardt

Ms. Rhinehardt is the primary liaison between the University and the federal government.  She works closely with the congressional delegation and their staff to advocate for University priorities.  Other duties include developing and implementing the Board of Governors' federal agenda, analyzing and influencing federal higher education policy, coordinating the government relations efforts for the 17 campuses of the UNC system and advising the president and Board of Governors on all federal issues.

Lynne Sanders

Ms. Sanders oversees the business process compliance program for the University system as well as the internal audit functions for UNC-GA and the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics.  In addition to working with the Office of the State Controller and the Office of the State Auditor on University compliance and audit matters, she serves as the primary liaison for the system-wide internal audit departments to the Board of Governors audit committee.  In coordination with system-wide Chief Audit Officers, she works to build collaborative efforts to strengthen internal audit services across the University system.

Vice President for Academic Planning and Assessment | 919-962-2620
The Vice President works with the UNC campuses to shape the future direction of academic programs across the University, and to provide leadership for special projects that represent innovative collaborations among institutions and with other constituencies. The Vice President reports to the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and is responsible for University-wide academic planning, the assessment of program and institutional performance and development, and implementation of competency-based approaches to curriculum development and assessment of student learning. The Vice President will have primary responsibility for identifying, creating and leading new strategies to make higher education more effective for students, adults, and other nontraditional learners; part of this work will involve facilitating the advancement of teaching and learning by University faculty.

Joni Worthington

Ms. Worthington is responsible for media relations for the UNC president and UNC Board of Governors, editorial and communications support for the president, and oversight of selected University publications and special projects. She also provides communications advice and counsel to the senior leadership team at UNC General Administration and serves as a liaison between the President’s Office and communications officers for all UNC campuses, affiliates and various state agencies.
