Javier Limon

Javier Limon, of Winterville, NC, serves as an ex-officio member of the University of North Carolina Board of Governors. His term will end with the 2025-26 academic year.

A master's student at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Limon received his undergraduate degree in political science from East Carolina University. He currently serves as the president of the UNC Association of Student Governments, the student-led governance body for the 240,000 students and 17 institutions of the University of North Carolina System.

Limon has worked in various roles related to politics and government, interning at the White House and in the United States Senate, and serving as a government relations intern for the Bipartisan Policy Center, a nonprofit committed to advancing smart, bipartisan policies through the legislative process. Limon has also worked for the NC Office for Strategic Partnerships, part of the North Carolina Office of State Budget and Management.

Limon was active in student government during his undergraduate studies, serving as ECU's student body president and ex-officio member of the ECU Board of Trustees. As ECU's student leader, Limon helped to support and relocate students displaced by a major apartment fire, working alongside university leaders to reallocate government funds that helped students replace damaged laptops, textbooks, and school supplies.

At UNC-Chapel Hill, he is the recipient of the Wally-Hill Merit Scholarship, awarded annually to a graduate student who has shown academic excellence.

As a student member of the Board, Limon is excited to be part of discussions about tuition, fees, academic policy, and other challenges and opportunities that students face. He says his background in student leadership and public service has provided valuable perspective, and he is ready to listen, collaborate, and focus on solutions that make a difference. During his time on the board, Limon will focus on areas that strengthen long-term institutional success and sustainability, including recruiting and retaining strong talent, supporting enrollment, and ensuring that costs remain manageable for students and their families. He is interested in how UNC System institutions prepare students for the workforce through professional development and career opportunities. And he is committed to programs that support mental health and wellness for students, faculty, and staff.

In his spare time, Limon loves travel, movies, college sports, and spending time with friends.

His advice to today's college student:

"Always strive to lift as you climb. As you earn opportunities and achieve success, share what you've learned and extend a hand to others. Leadership isn't just about how far you go -- it's about how many people you bring along with you. Invest in the people around you, and you'll build something far greater than any individual accomplishment."
