Ralph Baric, Ph.D., the William R. Kenan, Jr., Distinguished Professor at the UNC Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has been named the recipient of the 2021 Oliver Max Gardner Award.
PBS North Carolina, in partnership with the UNC System and the Board of Governors Committee on Historically Minority-Serving Institutions (HMSI), announces the new series The Innovators: The Transformative Power of NC’s Historically Black and American Indian Universities. Comprised of digital shorts that begin rollout online on September 20 and a one-hour broadcast special on October 18, the series will bring focus to the six public HMSIs across North Carolina – Elizabeth City State University (ECSU), Fayetteville State University (FSU), North Carolina A&T State University (N.C. A&T), North Carolina Central University (NCCU), UNC Pembroke (UNCP) and Winston-Salem State University (WSSU).
North Carolina education leaders signed an agreement Monday to address the critical teacher shortage in the state. President Thomas Stith of the North Carolina Community College System and President Peter Hans of the University of North Carolina System made a joint announcement of their new Comprehensive Articulation Agreement that will increase opportunities for community college students to transfer to teacher education programs within the UNC System. It is effective fall 2021.
