CHAPEL HILL, NC – UNC Board of Governors Chair Harry Smith and UNC System Interim President Bill Roper issued the following joint statement praising the first responders on the scene at UNC Charlotte on Tuesday evening.
“We continue to lament those who lost their lives and who have suffered as a result of the shooting at UNC Charlotte on Tuesday. Following this tragic event, we have learned of the many examples of first responders acting quickly and heroically.
We wish to thank and commend the campus police officers, law enforcement agencies in the Charlotte area and beyond, medical personnel, emergency management officials, firefighters and countless volunteers who reacted quickly and bravely during this crisis. Professionals like these work each and every day at our institutions across the state to ensure the safety, well-being and security of our students, faculty and staff. They deserve our appreciation and support.”
