FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHAPEL HILL, NC –  UNC System Interim President Bill Roper issued the following statement on the N.C. House of Representatives’ 2019-2021 state budget:

“The House’s biennial budget builds upon many of the UNC System’s existing key priorities set forth by the UNC Board of Governors.

We are pleased to see a commitment to summer enrollment funding, a significant investment which will help improve student outcomes. Two noteworthy projects included will go to UNC Pembroke’s new College of Health Sciences, which was established last year to help meet the health care needs of rural southeastern North Carolina, and to groundbreaking biopharmaceutical manufacturing research at North Carolina State University. The budget includes funding for improvements to existing buildings on many of our campuses, including significant investments in renovation projects that were on hold. We are also very pleased to see firm investments in data modernization and commitments to faculty recruitment and retention, helping to ensure we continue to attract the best and brightest, and are competitive in the job marketplace.

The UNC System and its institutions appreciate the House’s vote of confidence in North Carolina’s public higher education system and we look forward to working with the state legislature further to continue the progress we have made.”
