Children’s Heart Program Fights for Infant’s Life … Culminating in Successful Heart Transplant

Diagnosed with a congenital heart condition while in utero, an unborn son, was given “little chance of survival,” yet he beat the odds thanks to the life-saving care of the N.C. Pediatric Heart Center at UNC Children’s Hospital. Following many health challenges and a successful heart transplant, “Jett” was discharged and continues his recovery. Not only did Jett survive, but he is learning to thrive.

UNC Lineberger Provides CAR-T Treatment for Cancer Patients

The University of North Carolina Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center is one of a select few academic centers in the United States with the scientific and technical capabilities and a FDA-regulated current good manufacturing practices facility to design, manufacture, and deliver chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy. The center has seven adult and two pediatric clinical trials open for accrual and can provide patients treatment with the commercially available Kymriah™ and Yescarta®.

UNC Helps Adults with Tethered Cord Syndrome Find Relief Through Surgery

UNC Health Care is one of a few institutions in the world that offers surgery to fix a rare spinal cord condition in adults: tethered cord syndrome. Just over a dozen surgeries a year are completed at the UNC Medical Center in Chapel Hill, and many of these patients travelled hundreds of miles to get there.
