IT SERVICE/FUNCTIONDESCRIPTION
Contract ManagementThe contracts division leverages the scale of the UNC System to negotiate and manage a centralized repository of IT contracts and agreements for use by all UNC System constituent institutions and affiliates.    
Data Center Services – Managed ServiceThe Infrastructure and Operations (I&O) team manages all hosting services through two colocation (colo) data centers through statewide partnerships with NC DIT Western Data Center (WDC) Operations and MCNC Data Center Operations.  The I&O team is able to leverage our agreements as a Service Broker with these two data center providers to facilitate colo services for other NC higher education institutions.
Disaster Recovery as a Service (DRaaS)Future Service Planned for FY20-21The Infrastructure and Operations (I&O) team provides compute, storage, and network resources for replicating customer, on-premise systems to our Managed Data Centers for disaster recovery.  This service is available to the UNC System Office and other NC higher education institutions.  The I&O team functions as the Service Provider for the network, hardware, virtualization, and the DRaaS software layers.  The customer is responsible for provisioning systems at the DR site.  This function can be managed service provided by the I&O team.  The customer is responsible for recovery of all database and application systems at the DR site as well as failback to the primary site.
Facilities InventoryThe facilities inventory allows all 16 UNC universities, 58 community colleges, and a few private institutions to load inventory data used in space utilization reporting.  Standard utilization reports are made available based on the data submitted.
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) – Managed ServiceThe Infrastructure and Operations (I&O) team provides compute, storage, and network resources for hosting web, application, and database services at our Managed Data Centers for the UNC System Office and other NC higher education institutions.  The I&O team functions as the Service Provider for the network, hardware, virtualization, and operating system layers of the IT infrastructure.  The customer manages all elements of the application layer.
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) – Self-ServiceFuture Service Planned for FY20-21The Infrastructure and Operations (I&O) team will provide compute, storage, and network resources for hosting web, application, and database services at our Managed Data Centers for the UNC System Office and other NC higher education institutions.  The I&O team functions as the Service Provider for the network, hardware, and virtualization layers of the IT infrastructure.  The customer manages all elements at the operating system (including provisioning) and application layers.
Insight Analytics PlatformInsight is UNC’s analytics platform offering cloud data storage, reporting and visualization, and data science services.
Legislation, Policy, and Records SupportIT provides business, technical, and operations analysis needed to implement Federal, State, and System requirements as they impact university and System Office business systems.
P-20/Statewide Longitudinal Data System (SLDS)The SLDS is a brokering system to allow the data retrieval from multiple data sources from our partners in the  P-20 arena (K-12, Community Colleges, University System, Labor Force). The System Office provides data to the broker based on parameters sent from the brokering request system.
Platform as a Service (PaaS) for BannerThe Infrastructure and Operations (I&O) team and Database Administration team provide compute, storage, network, and database (Oracle or MS SQL Server) resources for hosting web, application, and database services at our Managed Data Centers for the UNC System Office and other NC higher education institutions.  This service is focused on providing a platform for hosting the Ellucian Banner ERP System.  The I&O team functions as the Service Provider for the network, hardware, virtualization, operating system, and database layers of the IT infrastructure.  The customer manages all elements of the Ellucian Banner applications.
Program Management Office (PMO)The Program Management team coordinates projects, products, and programs for the UNC System’s suite of information products.
Reverse TransferThe Reverse Transfer system provides NC community colleges transcript data and course equivalencies for students who attended an NC community college and who may qualify for associate’s degree through UNC System coursework.
Shared Services – ERP Managed ServicesERP Managed Services offers subscribing UNC System campuses services and support for their ERP Systems.  This includes project management, custom development, software installation, consulting and support.
Shared Services – Payroll CenterSSC Payroll provides centralized payroll processing services to participating UNC Institutions.  Information Technology provides development and project management services to increase efficiency and integrate with 3rd party payroll and benefit vendors.
System Office infrastructure and supportIT supports all user software applications and hardware, virtual machines, internet and intranet, wired and wireless building networks, shared and meeting space equipment for multiple buildings and 300+ employees plus thousands of guest users hosted by the System Office each year.    
System Office Third Party Application IntegrationIT provides the technical expertise, implementation assistance, and support for third party application integrations into the system office infrastructure.
UNC Data MartThe UNC Data Mart contains timely data feeds from all 16 universities and the System Office.  Information on students, programs, courses, faculty, staff, and space are available to permissioned users.
UNC Language ExchangeUNC Language Exchange offers students in the System a search of language courses and the steps for course registration between UNC universities.  
VDI as a Service (VDIaaS)Future Service Planned for FY20-21The Infrastructure and Operations (I&O) team provides compute, storage, network, and virtualization resources for virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) at our Managed Data Centers.  This includes provisioning and managing the virtual desktop images.  User account management is provided via integration with the customer’s user account/identity management system. This service is available to the UNC System Office and other NC higher education institutions.  The I&O team functions as the Service Provider for the IT infrastructure layers.  The customer is responsible for maintaining the specifications for the virtual desktop environments that are built and deployed by the I&O team.
Web Content ManagementApplications Services provides the WordPress content management system and support for the System Office and some constituents to create web sites and post content relative to their mission.
Web Application Development – CustomApplications Services provides the business analysis and development of custom web applications that are specific to different business needs.
