A groundbreaking held on the campus of UNCW marks the beginning of an investment of more than $140 million into student housing.

Representatives from the UNCW Board of Trustees, Division of Student Affairs and the Student Government Association joined Chancellor Jose V. Sartarelli during a groundbreaking ceremony for the university’s new Student Housing Village.

“Imagine this part of campus in a couple of years, when these residence halls will be filled with students eager to experience everything that UNCW has to offer,” Sartarelli said. “UNCW is a destination school for students from across the country and, increasingly, around the world. Once these buildings open, they will have a brand-new place on campus to call home.”

The university plans to construct four buildings, which will house 1,814 students. The first two buildings, designed as traditional pod-style, will house freshmen. Two suite-style buildings will provide housing for upperclassmen, transfers and some freshmen.
