The M&J Scholarship program exists to support the academic endeavors of students from West Rowan High School in Mt. Ulla, North Carolina. Made possible by generous donations from a Rowan County couple, both proud graduates of West Rowan High School, this scholarship aims to help students earn a bachelor’s degree in agriculture, education, engineering, nursing, life sciences and physical sciences, or technology from any UNC System university.
Students selected for the award receive a $4,000 scholarship, which is renewable for up to four years if the student meets the scholarship agreement requirements.
how to apply
The application period will open on March 1, 2026, with a priority deadline of April 15. All current seniors and past graduates of West Rowan High School are invited to apply. Applicants must also complete the FAFSA by April 15.
Criteria
- Current senior or past graduate of West Rowan High School in Mt. Ulla, NC
- Accepted at a UNC System university, listed below
- Planning to pursue or currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in an eligible field:
- Agriculture
- Education
- Engineering
- Nursing
- Life Sciences and Physical Sciences
- Technology
- North Carolina resident
- Pell Eligible as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Applicants must complete the FAFSA by April 15
Award Information
- Awards are for one academic year.
- The scholarship is renewable for up to four years if the student remains in an approved major and is making satisfactory academic progress, as defined by their institution, to graduate within a total of five academic years.
- Each scholarship award will be a minimum of $4,000 per academic year, with the possibility to receive more depending on funding availability.
