Each institution within the UNC System has an internal audit function that is led by a chief audit officer. The chief audit officer at the UNC System Office serves as a liaison between the institutional chief audit officers and UNC System Office leadership as well as to the UNC Board of Governors. In addition, the UNC System Office chief audit officer oversees sensitive internal investigations and fact-finding projects at the direction and request of the Board, the UNC System president, and/or the Committee on Audit, Risk Management, and Compliance (CARMC).
