This holiday season, I invite you to join me in celebrating another great year for the University of North Carolina System and all who made it possible.
I’m grateful for our faculty who mentor, teach and support our students as they pursue their dreams. I’m grateful for our staff working tirelessly behind the scenes to keep our institutions running. I’m grateful to our administrative leaders at every level whose vision and support empower our university communities to reach higher and elevate their impact. I’m grateful for our graduate students, whose work in the classrooms and labs is absolutely essential. And I’m grateful for our amazing undergraduates. They are our state’s future and they make us proud every day.
Individually our 17 institutions are remarkable and collectively they are extraordinary. This year, we achieved many great things across the University.
We launched My Future NC, a commission which will help align our state’s education system from Pre-K through College.
We rolled out strategic agreements finalizing each institution’s goals to eliminate achievement gaps and ensure students of every background can graduate and succeed.
And during this year, we taught nearly 250,000 students, granted nearly 54,000 academic degrees, and brought in almost one and a half billion dollars in research funding that drives innovation and our economy forward.
This System’s strength comes from our connection to those we serve. As families celebrate this happy and joyful season, we send our gratitude and thanks to every North Carolinian for the opportunity to make our state stronger.
Happy Holidays to all.
