NCSSM has been ranked the 12th best public high school in America, and 1st in North Carolina, on The Daily Beast’s Top High Schools 2014 list.

This is the fourth-straight year that NCSSM has climbed higher on the list, from 66th in 2011, to 29th in 2012, 23rd in 2013 and finally 12th in 2014.

The list ranks schools based upon six indicators. Graduation and college acceptance rates are weighed most heavily in the rank calculations, with other factors including college-level courses and exams, as well as SAT and ACT scores.

To create the list, The Daily Beast, which merged with Newsweek in 2010, surveyed public high schools in the U.S. with above-average graduation rates of 85 percent or higher. This year’s list features the top 735 high schools in the U.S.

NCSSM was also recently one of only 23 high schools recognized across the nation on the Washington Post’s list of top-performing schools.
