CAMPUS ENGAGEMENT EFFORTS

The UNC System Racial Equity Task Force developed an overall engagement strategy to hear from university community members and to gain a better understanding of race and equity within the System. The engagement strategy included conducting a system-wide survey and a series of virtual town halls. In addition, the task force met with students, faculty, and staff representatives at their weekly work group sessions and hosted focus groups with faculty, staff, and student leaders and advocates.

THE VIRTUAL TOWN HALL EXPERIENCE

UNC System Racial Equity Task Force Virtual Town Halls were held Oct. 19-29. The seven sessions included discussions on race and equity from more than 3,000 students, faculty, and staff from our 17 institutions. Task force members actively listened during each session and will use the feedback from our contributors and attendees to inform its recommendations to the Board of Governors and UNC System Office.

Systemwide Survey

From September 15-30, 2020, the UNC System conducted a survey that gathered the opinions and experiences on race and equity from students, faculty, and staff from across the 17 institutions. More than 16,000 students and employees responded to the survey. The survey responses were critical in shaping the discussion topics for the virtual listening sessions.
