UNCW’s data science team will be among data innovators and thought leaders presenting at this year’s SAS Global Forum in Denver.
The team, known as SAS Super FREQs, is one of eight teams participating in the SAS Global Forum Student Symposium April 8-11.
Jim Blum, professor of statistics in the UNCW Department of Mathematics and Statistics, serves as the team’s faculty adviser. “Being selected as one of only eight presenters is a great accomplishment for the students. We hope it will be the first of many, as the program continues forward.”
The SAS Super FREQs team consists of Hillary Melroy, Michelle Page, Brittany Palmer, and Greg Terlecky, all first-year students in the M.S. in Data Scienceprogram. The team created a utility for viewing classroom usage for various buildings on the UNCW campus. Students wrote a paper that defined the problem, described the analysis performed and presented the results. This experience was good practice for the forum, where UNCW’s team will present their project during a 20-minute breakout session. The oral presentations will be judged and the top three teams will be announced at the conference.
