Changing Lives Through Education

Founded in 1887 to educate American Indian teachers, The University of North Carolina at Pembroke is the nation’s only four-year public institution founded by American Indians for American Indians. Located in southeastern North Carolina, on 281 acres, UNCP is one of the most diverse campuses in the South. Its commitment to a personalized education experience uniquely prepares students for rewarding careers, postgraduate education, leadership roles, and fulfilling lives. A student’s experience at UNCP will emphasize critical thinking, effective communication, service, and social responsibility.

NC Promise and Historically Minority-Serving Institution

The NC Promise Tuition Plan means students pay tuition expenses of just $500 per semester for in-state students and $2,500 per semester for out-of-state students. This applies to all undergraduate students, online, transfer, freshmen, and currently enrolled students. Student fees, along with room and board costs will not be impacted. NC Promise dramatically reduces the expense of a college education, saving students at least $10,000 over their four years of enrollment.

The UNC System Board of Governors created a special Committee on Historically Minority-Serving Institutions in 2018 to study and assess six institutions’ unique challenges and promising opportunities. The goal of the committee is to create strategies that will ensure these institutions’ future growth by promoting investments, opportunities, and awareness throughout the state.
