Institutional Review Board for the Use of Human Participants in Research

All UNC General Administration program directors and professional staff involved in research and evaluation activities are required to adhere to the highest ethical standards when conducting studies involving human participants. UNC-GA is under the jurisdiction of the UNC-Chapel Hill Social and Behavioral Sciences IRB under a Federal Wide Assurance (FWA). All projects involving human participants need to be reviewed in the context of ensuring minimal risk to participants and confidentiality. 

 The UNC-Chapel Hill Human Research Protection Program ensures that:

• The rights and welfare of human subjects are paramount in the research process
• The highest standards of ethical conduct are employed in all research involving human subjects
• Research investigators are properly trained in the ethical and regulatory aspects of research with human subjects
• Research investigators deal honestly and fairly with human subjects, informing them fully of procedures to be followed, and the risks and benefits of participating in research
• Research using human subjects conforms to all applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations and the policies of the university
