These resources and tools are intended to assist the process of applying for, negotiating, accepting, and managing accounts related to externally funded sponsored programs and endevours at the University of North Carolina.
“Sponsored Programs” refers to scholarly, professional, and creative activities conducted by UNC personnel which are supported by external funds such as grants, contracts, cooperative agreements, etc.
The Office of Sponsored Programs at UNC General Administration provides a wide range of pre- and post-award services and resources both to UNC GA principle investigators and their staff and to research administrators across the whole University. The Office strives to make the contract and grant application process efficient, effective, and user-friendly by providing support from the initial funding inquiry all the way through to the account closeout process. Resources and explanations regarding the grant administration process both for the University and for UNC General Administration investigators can be found on this website.
Additionally, the Office of Sponsored Programs at UNC General Administration works to coordinate the activities of the Sponsored Programs and Research Council (SPARC), maintains records about UNC Sponsored Programs awards in databases and summary reports, and is involved in various other campus-wide, sponsored programs initiatives. Information about all these items can be found by following the links located at left.
For technical information about the definition and governance of Sponsored Programs at UNC, please consult the pertinent portions of the UNC policy manual or download the SPARC Guidelines document on Sponsored Programs.
