Education
The University of North Carolina has a mission both to offer exemplary higher education opportunities, and to produce first rate K-12 instructors, armed with the latest ideas and innovations in effective teaching strategies. Cutting-edge education research is happening at all 16 UNC universities, improving the local communities and adding value to the outstanding new instructors graduating from the system each year.

The Center for Educational Research and Evaluation
The Center for Educational Research and Evaluation (CERE) at UNC Greensboro provides educational research and evaluation services to school systems and other public and private agencies. CERE's staff members are experts in a variety of educational assessment areas, conducting research into effective education techniques, while providing solid evaluation methods for already established education programs.

North Carolina School of Science and Math (NCSSM)
NCSSM is a public, residential high school where students study a specialized curriculum emphasizing science and mathematics. NCSSM serves as a living educational laboratory, and a catalyst for educational improvement throughout North Carolina and the nation. NCSSM's mission is to meet North Carolina's need for responsible leadership in the development and application of science, mathematics and technology.

Special Needs Education
Through UNC Charlotte's Reading Accommodations and Interventions for Students with Emerging (RAISE) Literacy program, researchers Diane Browder and Claudia Flowers are working with 125 children with moderate to severe cognitive disabilities, evaluating literacy teaching programs. Research at UNC Charlotte's College of Education includes a series of studies focused on improving educational opportunities for students with cognitive challenges.

1:1 Learning Collaborative
The 1:1 Learning Collaborative is an education initiative out of NC State University's Friday Institute for Educational Innovation. The Collaborative facilitates widespread access to laptop computers and wireless internet for students and teachers at participating schools, enabling instructors to teach 21st century content using online teaching innovations. The initiative's ultimate mission is to prepare students for lives as capable, globally conscious, informed citizens.
