Academic Programs

The UNC Board of Governors has the statutory responsibility to authorize the establishment of new degree programs and the discontinuation of existing degree programs.  Procedures for planning and obtaining authorization for new degree programs, discontinuing programs, and establishing distance education programs are described in the Academic Planning section of this site.

All degree programs authorized by the Board are listed in a web database that can be searched by degree type and campus.  Special inventories for distance education and certificate programs are also available.  Links to search these inventories are provided in this, the Academic Program section.

This section also provides links to UNC Online, a website that provides a wealth of information for individuals seeking online educational opportunities.  For degree-seeking students at UNC constituent institutions, the Inter-Institutional Registration page provides a streamlined process for them to identify online courses listed by other UNC campuses on UNC Online and register for those courses.  Students seeking degree programs not available from UNC constituent institutions are able to identify programs available in other Southeastern states via the Academic Common Market.
