Academic Common Market

The University of North Carolina administers North Carolina's participation in the Academic Common Market (ACM), an arrangement sponsored by the Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) whereby certified residents of one participating state may pursue uncommon degree programs in another participating state at in-state tuition rates. Students must apply through their own state's office of the ACM State Coordinator.

North Carolina and two other states (Florida and Texas) participate at the graduate level only (master's and doctoral degree programs). Residents of Florida, North Carolina, and Texas may not pursue baccalaureate degrees through the ACM, nor may residents of the other participating states pursue baccalaureate degrees through the ACM in Florida, North Carolina, and Texas.

Selected first professional degree programs in schools of dentistry, medicine, optometry, osteopathic medicine, podiatry, and veterinary medicine are covered by the SREB's Regional Contract Program. North Carolina participates in the RCP for the study of optometry. Prospective participants must apply through the College Foundation of North Carolina.
