A university in the east is one of just 9 in the country selected to create and operate an Aerospace Academy under NASA's Minority University Research and Education Project.

Elizabeth City State University will collaborate with an existing NASA Academy site at Warren County High School for an outreach program in the northeastern part of the state.

ECSU says the project will get a grant of nearly $350,000 for a 3-year period and hopes to reach up to 1,000 students annually.

Chancellor Stacey Jones says the program will promote STEM literacy, as well as prepare and encourage students in underserved areas to pursue college degrees.
