With NC's population growth the state gained an influx of individuals who are college-educated but not graduates of the UNC system and do not have any affiliations with our campuses.  This is a challenge as many of these new voters are also newly elected.  But with challenge comes opportunity and with an outside the box approach to marketing our system to these new residents, the State will benefit.  Hear how another industry addressed this same challenge.

Government Relations Session II: Government Relations 101
This is a discussion on how we can effectively package university priorities in a new legislative environment.  This session is designed to provide attendees with tips from current lobbyists and former elected officials about the risks associated with poor access and communication strategies, identifying the key players in the lobbying process, developing strategies on maximizing and expanding your contacts list, and capitalizing on tactics to exert pressure in a timely fashion, and recognizing when you should hold off.

Joint Session V: Congressional Budget/Appropriations Primer & State Budget Primer
If you are new to federal government relations or just needing a little refresher, then this workshop is for you.  Hear about the Congressional Budget/Appropriations process, learn basic but critical terms, and become familiar with timing and process.  You’ll also hear about Congressional situational awareness and places to go to get up to speed quickly on an issue.  On the state side, learn about the nuances of the budget process, the basics of bill crossover, and the roles and responsibilities of the various leadership positions.

Luncheon w/Keynote Address: Title IV of the Higher Education Act focuses on financial aid.  Over the last few years Congress has tweaked portions of this section to deal with Pell Grants, and student loan interest rates.  With reauthorization of the Higher Education Act on the horizon, learn about the history of Title IV and recommendations for dealing with its challenges.
