Juan Cherry served GEAR UP students and families in the Cleveland County School system as GEAR UP Coordinator for over four years. During his time as a GEAR UP Coordinator he established multiple community partnerships in efforts to sustain the district’s “College Going Culture.” Juan is a published author of youth leadership and empowerment books, presented at the national level, served as a motivational speaker at multiple GEAR UP events and currently serves as a school counselor. The clips provided are examples of how to establish a sustainable “College Going Culture.” He has outlined four critical components (Language – Leadership – Belief – Buy in) required to initiate a true cultural shift.
