Asheville will be home to a new federal research center that will look to satellites to study the Earth's changing climate. The National Climate Data Center (NCDC) in downtown Asheville will house the new Cooperative Institute for Climate and Satellites that will bring $32 million to the area and as many as 100 scientific jobs over the next five years. Researchers from NC State will work with other world-renowned earth scientists at NCDC to analyze climate data records and produce useful information that someday could help governments and businesses predict and prepare for specific and regional impacts of climate change.
