UNC Partnership for National Security

The nation’s future “soft power” depends on scholar-soldiers, sailors, marines, and airmen who are, at their core, valued sources and purveyors of ideas, reflective critical and creative thinkers who can invest the military with intellectual legitimacy and influence.  The University of North Carolina’s core competencies and its three-pronged mission of teaching, research and scholarship and public service naturally align with existing and future needs identified by the United States Department of Defense, military elements and federal agencies.

As such, the University of North Carolina has formal partnerships with military elements and other partners under the systemwide umbrella of the UNC Partnership for National Security. Goals for the UNC Partnership for National Security are to:

  • Support the Warfighter
  • Contribute to the mission
  • Grow North Carolina's national security economy
