WHEREAS, the University’s 16,000 faculty are an essential component of the University, and
WHEREAS, the faculty have a unique understanding of the University and its needs, and
WHEREAS, William A. Weary, a consultant to the Board of Governors, stated in “Essentials of Presidential Search” that “faculty certainly will be members of the [search] committee,” and
WHEREAS, no faculty members were ultimately placed on the search committee, and
WHEREAS it would send a strong message to candidates if faculty participated in the interview process,
THEREFORE, be it resolved, that the University of North Carolina Faculty Assembly strongly urges the Board of Governors to include representatives of the University’s faculty in interviewing finalists for the President of the University.
