Resolution to Extend Campus-based Benefits to Domestic Partners of University Employees

WHEREAS, the Faculty Assembly's Faculty Welfare Committee takes as part of its mandate the expansion and improvement of benefits available to faculty members, and the promotion of community within the University; and

WHEREAS, one segment of the University community that has not enjoyed full recognition and benefits includes individuals who have formed domestic partnerships1 and do not receive campus-based benefits equal to those enjoyed by spouses of employees; and

WHEREAS, such benefits may include access to campus-based academic, recreational and social activities, campus-based insurance programs, and employment assistance programs;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the President of The University of North Carolina system recommend to the chancellors of the constituent institutions that campus-based benefits permissible under the law and available to spouses of employees be extended to domestic partners of employees.
