A Resolution Reaffirming the Need for Teaching and Learning Centers
WHEREAS, the Board of Governors Report on Tenure and Teaching, Administrative Memorandum 338 and Faculty Assembly Resolution 94-8 have established the commitment of UNC to the enhancement of undergraduate teaching through the development of Teaching and Learning Centers on each campus; and
WHEREAS, Administrative Memorandum 338 states, That the Board of Governors seek appropriations for each campus in biennial budget requests to establish or to strengthen centers and activities designed to encourage and support teaching excellence and to improve teaching effectiveness throughout the University; and
WHEREAS, a February 1997 survey conducted by the Professional Development Committee indicates that a significant number of campuses are still without such centers;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Faculty Assembly request that the President of the University:
1. establish Teaching and Learning Centers where they do not exist;
2. expand and upgrade existing centers as appropriate.
