RESOLUTION ON FACULTY AND STUDENT ACCESS TO ELECTRONIC TECHNOLOGY
WHEREAS, Faculty and student access to electronic technology is essential in the world of modern higher education; and
WHEREAS, Access to on- and off-campus electronic mail, and to the wealth of subject-related materials available on the Internet, including the World Wide Web, is increasingly necessary for maintaining currency for teaching and research in all disciplines; and
WHEREAS, Any students of the University of North Carolina who lack appropriate access to the same electronic resources needed by their teachers suffer when they do not get information and training in skills necessary for their future success; and
WHEREAS, Faculty participation in governance on and among the sixteen campuses is also especially hampered because a number of faculty still lack access to the Internet; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Faculty Assembly urges the President of the University of North Carolina to determine which faculty and students still lack convenient and modern access to the Internet, and to support and encourage the correction of all deficiencies found as soon as possible.
