Resolutions Quicklist

Motion: 2003-Apr-#15
Topic: Urge faculty participation in decisions on teaching technologies
Proposed by: Academic Freedom and Tenure Committee
Disposition: Adopted 4/03

Whereas, faculty participation in new teaching technology, including courseware, multimedia, and presentation technology, is a key component in increasing access to new student populations, and

Whereas, such new technologies are radically redefining the very nature of teaching and research as well as faculty ownership of these processes, and

Whereas, courseware and its content belong in the realm of process and curriculum, not "property,"

Now therefore be it resolved,

  • That each campus form a committee to review its intellectual property documents to define the role of these technologies and to insure that all instruction remain in the faculty domain, and further,

  • That this committee be composed primarily of faculty currently teaching in the disciplines in consultation with a legal advisor, and further

  • That this committee create a Teaching and Technology Policy that more specifically defines faculty and student rights, responsibilities and ownership (refer to UNCG policy as a possible model).
