WHEREAS, a culture and tradition of shared governance are essential to the excellence of any university; and
WHEREAS, such a culture and tradition do not currently exist uniformly on all sixteen UNC campuses; therefore
WHEREAS, the UNC regional accreditation body Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) requires submission of clear evidence of shared governance as a criterion for continued accreditation
BE IT RESOLVED, that the Faculty Assembly urges the President of the University of North Carolina to ensure that all formal periodic evaluations of senior administrators on the sixteen campuses include an evaluation of their commitment to and compliance with the Standards of Shared Governance on the 16 UNC Campuses approved by this body in April 2005; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Faculty Assembly urges the President to expect evidence of commitment to a culture of shared governance when hiring or re-appointing chancellors and other senior administrators in the UNC system.
