UNC Faculty Assembly Resolution 7-2010

Honoring President Erskine Bowles

Whereas Erskine Bowles served with distinction as President of the University of North Carolina; and

Whereas, Erskine Bowles worked diligently to use our resources effectively; and

Whereas Erskine Bowles made keeping tuition affordable to all who wanted the opportunity to enroll at an institution of public higher education in North Carolina his top priority; and

Whereas Erskine Bowles fought to compensate faculty at levels appropriate to their peer institutions and maintain excellence in the faculty ranks; and

Whereas Erskine Bowles played a critical role in strengthening communication and collaboration between General Administration, the Board of Governors, and the Faculty Assembly during a time of significant change; and

Whereas Erskine Bowles formulated an inclusive and comprehensive process to produce UNC Tomorrow to function as a roadmap to the future of our endeavors; and

Whereas Erskine Bowles labored tirelessly with the North Carolina General Assembly and the Office of the Governor to assure adequate funding for the University of North Carolina in challenging budget years; and

Whereas Erskine Bowles demanded excellence from all persons associated with the University of North Carolina; and

Whereas Erskine Bowles embodies strong leadership that contributes to and enhances the University in all its work;

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED:

The Faculty Assembly expresses its deepest admiration and appreciation to Erskine Bowles for his outstanding service to the University of North Carolina, and thanks him for his contributions to the greater good of our students, the University system, and the state of North Carolina.
