Resolution Honoring Peter Petschauer
Chair, The Faculty Assembly
The University of North Carolina
WHEREAS, PETER PETSCHAUER has served on the Faculty Assembly from August 1990 to June 1997, heading the Appalachian State University delegation as chair of its senate from 1990 to 1992; and
WHEREAS, he has chaired the Educational Planning and Programs Committee from 1992 to 1995 and the Faculty Assembly from 1995 to 1997; and
WHEREAS, he has initiated the use of e-mail to link almost all representatives of the institutions of the University of North Carolina, pleading for the linkage of the remaining representatives, and thereby opened ready discussion among senates/councils and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, he has encouraged placement of system-wide issues on the agendas of the Faculty Assembly in whatever quarter they arose and thereby enhanced discussion of issues raised by senates/councils and representatives; and
WHEREAS, he has embraced the young tradition of attending all meetings of the Board of Governors, including the Educational Planning and Programs Committee, as representative of the Faculty Assembly, thus attaining recognition for the Faculty Assembly; and
WHEREAS, he has visited senates and councils of the sixteen UNC institutions to alert these bodies of the function and work of the Faculty Assembly; and
WHEREAS, he has actively served on the UNC Post-Tenure Review Committee and the Phased- in-Retirement Committee; and
WHEREAS, he has encouraged the concept and placement of leadership development (chair training) as one of the most significant avenues for improving conditions of faculty members in pursuit of their professional expressions; and
WHEREAS, he has understood and valued the high idea of protecting the right of all representatives to their voice of the Faculty Assembly;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Faculty Assembly recognize and thank its colleague, Chair Peter Petschauer for his unstinting and valuable service to all faculty within the sixteen University of North Carolina institutions.
