The University of North Carolina System Board of Governors has approved a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies that will be available to UNCW students beginning in fall 2018.

“UNCW is continually developing degree programs to prepare students for jobs that will evolve throughout the 21st century and to provide knowledgeable, skilled workers for employers,” said Chancellor Jose V. Sartarelli. “The interdisciplinary studies curriculum will allow students who have left UNCW to return to complete their degrees through a program that incorporates their life experiences.”

The B.A. in Interdisciplinary Studies program is part of an ongoing effort to raise degree completion rates and will be offered to students who earned at least 70 credits, including some at UNCW, but left before graduating. The curriculum will involve a choice of several tracks and will incorporate applied learning, critical thinking, problem solving and communication skills. It is designed to build on students’ life and work experiences as well as previous academic credits.

UNCW’s Strategic Plan emphasizes applied learning, innovative approaches and preparing students to excel in a competitive job market.
