The Prospective Student Portal (PSP), a first-of-a-kind application of technology and collaboration, is UNC's unique effort to lead the nation in the development of student portals. While other universities in the United States may have campus portals, no other university has developed a portal of this kind, designed for prospective students. When the PSP is complete, any UNC constituent institution may implement it.
The innovative PSP will lead prospects through the steps required for enrollment as entering freshmen and
transfer students. It addresses a variety of student services and will bridge the gap between two portals already in place: NC Mentor, a web site that helps families select a college, and Campus Pipeline, a portal serving students from enrollment through graduation.
Western Carolina University, which served as the beta campus for preliminary design, is expected to
launch the portal in Winter 2001. Next online will be Appalachian State University and UNC Wilmington,
campuses that are actively involved in design and development.
Other UNC campuses that choose to implement the PSP will be able to customize the portal to meet unique needs. The PSP is a dynamic and ever-evolving initiative that will bring UNC one step closer to its vision of providing truly integrated and innovative services.
