UNC and SAS has entered into an extension (June, 2007 - December, 2007) of a $3 million, five-year grant which began in May, 2000. During the extension period SAS is continuing to help faculty, staff and students on UNC campuses explore tools and technologies in a landmark partnership with the world's largest privately held software company.
The initial partnership agreement provided free access to a suite of SAS products designed to streamline administrative tasks, help researchers compete for grants, and improve the overall efficiency of university operations. The grant partnership, covering software licensed from June 2000, began with five major components:
Software Licenses. All UNC faculty, staff and students are licensed to use a variety of SAS products, with no limits on the number of users or number of machines. A representative is appointed on each UNC campus to help coordinate the initiative.
SAS inSchool. The grant provides free licensing for SAS inSchool, a suite of software products designed for schools, to the 12,500 students and faculty in UNC's education programs, as well as those in professional development programs in the UNC Center for School Leadership Development. A representative is appointed on each UNC campus to help coordinate the initiative.
Decision-Support Tools. SAS is making available a series of products for decision support in the areas of finance, human resources and information technology management.
SAS Curriculum Integration. Representatives from UNC and SAS are exploring opportunities for SAS training to be integrated into course curriculum. SAS provides access to SAS Academic Trainers Kits to UNC faculty.
SAS Mini-Grants. Mini-grants, funded with nearly $500,000 in software and training from SAS, were awarded to eight campuses to support projects that address UNC strategic priorities. The 15 projects ranged from data warehousing to software training.
SAS Days. To showcase SAS products and services to administrators, faculty and students, SAS sponsors regional SAS Days on constituent institution campuses.
