UNC Greensboro Completes First Phase of Campus Wireless Project

Over the summer, UNCG completed Phase I of the Campus Wireless project, part of an overall plan to install wireless technology infrastructure throughout the campus.  As a result of the first stage, operational wireless networks exist in some specific areas of campus, while others have the infrastructure in place but no functionality, yet.  The second phase of the plan, to be completed by fall 2006, aims to extend wireless to all major academic buildings, freshman residence halls, and common areas on campus.    As part of the initiative, the university will recommend that incoming students in fall 2006 purchase a wireless laptop.  In fall 2007, laptop computers will be a requirement for all freshmen.

North Carolina Central University Announces Wireless Plan

NCCU is partnering with Nortel Networks to enable wireless connectivity throughout the campus by spring 2006.  Planners intend to connect all the major campus facilities –indoor and outdoor- so that students, faculty, and staff will have access to online resources from a classroom, residence hall, or outdoor laboratory.  “Having a fully wireless-enabled campus extends the boundaries of education far beyond the classroom and laboratory environment while at the same time providing new innovative teaching and learning opportunities for our students,” said Dr. James Ammons, Chancellor, North Carolina Central University.
