The Decision Support Services was created in 2003 to explore, evaluate, recommend and implement technologies to assist the University leadership with information to facilitate data-driven decision-making.  Projects recently completed or underway include:

Enterprise Data Warehouse

Based on the approved data management architecture, the UNCOP enterprise data warehouse will be designed to collect and cleanse various data types (financial, student, personnel, etc.) and to provide logical and related access to that data.  Tools chosen will be appropriate to the user and will facilitate a variety of reporting, graphical and benchmarking needs.

UNC Unified Financial Data Model

The UNC Unified Financial Data Model provides a single source for collecting, reconciling and reporting from selected UNC-wide data.  The system facilitates standard and ad hoc reporting, and offers rich opportunities for campus sharing of cash basis financial information.

Enrollment Planning and Budgeting

Conceived as a single system to provide for all UNCOP enrollment planning and budgeting needs, this application will use several types of data to facilitate enrollment-related analysis and reporting.  In addition, it will include models to forecast enrollment and calculate the enrollment change budget request.

Tuition and Fees Database

In a joint effort with the Division of Strategy Development and Analysis, this system was developed to collect data related to tuition and fee rate changes from the campuses, the UNC Board of Governors and the NC General Assembly.  Standard and ad hoc report capabilities are built in, and “what if” scenarios are enabled.

Selected Position Database

In a joint effort with the Division of Strategy Development and Analysis, two databases  were developed.  The first collects point-in-time data on positions vacant within the University; the second collects point-in-time data on EPA information technology positions.  Both applications facilitate reporting, with their primary use being the production of legislatively-mandated periodic reports.
