Inception:

The Board of Governors Awards for Excellence in Teaching were created in 1994 to encourage, identify, recognize, reward, and support excellent teaching within the university. A cash award of $7,500 and a bronze medallion created especially for the award are given to sixteen recipients, one from each UNC institution, at an annual recognition luncheon hosted by the Board in the spring.

Eligibility

Any faculty member who has earned tenure at a UNC institution
Any faculty member who has taught at least seven years
Any faculty member who demonstrates superior teaching ability over a sustained period of years.
No faculty member will be eligible to receive the award more than once while teaching at any UNC institution.
