Every board
of trustees and the Board of Governors must establish a policy governing
separation and/or retreat of administrators.
Conditions of employment for chancellors or the President are not a part
of this policy. Policies must address
both voluntary and involuntary relinquishment of administrative positions and
must include specific language referring to the retreat of those administrators
who hold a tenured faculty position. The
president has the authority to establish severance terms and conditions for
senior academic and administrative officers who are members of the president’s
staff in accordance with the policy of the Board of Governors, and the chancellors
have the authority to establish severance and retreat terms and conditions for
senior academic and administrative officers at their respective constituent
institutions, in accordance with the policy of the board of trustees and
regulations or guidelines established by the president. Campus policies must be approved by the president,
and the Office of the President policies must be approved by the Board of
Governors.
