1. Briefly describe the proposed program and intended audience.

The mission of the BSW program will be to provide a BSW degree to those who have completed their degree from Sandhills and are unable to attend a 4-year school in NC.  The mission of the Social Work Program at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke is to prepare students for professional entry-level social work practice within a generalist model and to become leaders in enhancing the quality of life. In keeping with its rural setting and needs of the region’s populace, the program attempts to impart to and teach students the skills necessary for implementing solutions to rural problems. It is particularly concerned with the consequences of injustice, and thus focuses on the empowerment of populations-at-risk and the advancement of economic, political and social justice in all communities.

The BSW program is designed to help meet the immediate and growing need in public, private and social service agencies in North Carolina for generalist social work professionals. The social work program’s mission statement is an extension of the university’s mission statement and provides the framework for the program’s goals and is appropriate to the purposes of the social work profession and social work education. It serves the community around the Sandhills Campus and those individuals who have received their AA or AS degrees.

2. Describe the proposed instructional delivery systems (e.g., on-site instruction by faculty, interactive video, Internet, etc.).

A combination of on-site instruction, interactive video and online. The majority of the courses (55%+) will be on-site

3. Describe need for the program (referencing results of surveys or special studies).

As described above UNCP is the closest 4 year school to the Sandhills Campus.  It is approximately 60 miles.  Students have been commuting to the UNCP campus for some years and have expressed an interest through surveys and other interest meetings to bring the program to the Sandhills campus. No other school is offering the program at the Sandhills campus.

4. Projected total annual enrollment:
Year 1:20
Year 2:20
Year 3:30
Year 4:30
Year 5:30
