1. Briefly describe the proposed program and intended audience.
The Bachelor of Social Work program is accredited by the Council of Social Work Education (CSWE). We are proposing a BSW degree completion program that will prepare professionals with a social work undergraduate degree while maintaining their residence and employment in the communities they hope to serve.
2. Describe the proposed instructional delivery systems (e.g., on-site instruction by faculty, interactive video, Internet, etc.).
The program will be delivered at the Gateway Technology Center, a site in Rocky Mount, NC away from campus, using a variety of course delivery methods, including face-to-face instruction, internet and hybrid.
3. Describe need for the program (referencing results of surveys or special studies).
BSW distance education initiatives using a hybrid model of instruction are not available in the proposed catchment areas of eastern North Carolina. In an effort to ascertain the need and interest in the program, the School of Social Work has conducted a needs assessment, surveys have been placed on the school’s website, presentations have been made to the DSS Directors Association information sessions have been held at the Gateway Technology Center with agencies and prospective students. These efforts indicate a need for this type of initiative, especially for individuals who are full-time employees.
4. Projected total annual enrollment:
Year 1:25
Year 2:50
Year 3:50
Year 4:50
Year 5:50
