1. Briefly describe the proposed program and intended audience.

To create an off-campus BSW/MSW Program at Ft. Bragg that will help the military and surrounding community with the current need for social workers. Currently we are requesting to begin the BSW program, we will request permission for the off-campus MSW program in 2014 as these will be co-located programs and will require separate approval.  UNCP currently has existing programs and a presence at Ft. Bragg in other disciplines.

2. Describe the proposed instructional delivery systems (e.g., on-site instruction by faculty, interactive video, Internet, etc.).

The proposed off campus program will consist of a part-time/full-time BSW students.  Students will have classes at the Ft Bragg campus. They will also receive their advisement on the FT. Bragg campus.  Less than 5% of the classes will be online; we will offer hybrid format, ITV, and face to face classes. All advisement will be face to face.

3. Describe need for the program (referencing results of surveys or special studies).

A BSW will have the unique focus of training students in military social work.   suggests that active military and veterans of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF, Afghanistan) and Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF, Iraq) could present with signs of posttraumatic stress disorder several months to a year after return from deployment (RAND, Center for Military Health Policy Research, 2008).  Further factors noted that affect service members include traumatic brain injury, depression, feelings of guilt, sexual trauma, reintegration challenges, substance use and abuse, and various physical and mental health problems (Department of Veterans Affairs, Iraqi War Clinician Guide, 2004).

4. Projected total annual enrollment:
Year 1:25
Year 2:35
Year 3:50
Year 4:50
Year 5:50
