1. Briefly describe the proposed program and intended audience.

To create an off-campus MSW Program at Sandhills Community College that will enable students in this area to obtain an MSW degree. The students will be residents of Moore and surrounding counties.

2. Describe the proposed instructional delivery systems (e.g., on-site instruction by faculty, interactive video, Internet, etc.).

The proposed MSW off campus program will consist of a part-time/full-time 60 hour program.  Students will have classes on the Sandhills campus. They will also receive their advisement on the Sandhills campus.  Less than 5% of the classes will be online; we will offer hybrid format, ITV, and face to face classes. All advisement will be face to face.

3. Describe need for the program (referencing results of surveys or special studies).

The mission of the Master of Social Work (MSW) program is to prepare students for professional social work practice responsive to the challenges and resources present in rural areas in North Carolina. The proposed MSW Program is designed to help meet (1) the immediate need in southern North Carolina, and (2) the growing need in public, private and social service agencies in North Carolina for advanced generalist social work professionals. The need in the state for MSW professionals, particularly in child welfare, mental health and in rural areas, has been documented as critical in several studies especially in light of the mental health current reform, and the critical need for MSW professionals in the child welfare arena.  The proposed MSW Program responds to this statewide demand, as well as to the local need as expressed by agency administrators and staff.

4. Projected total annual enrollment:
