| 1. Briefly describe the proposed program and intended audience. | |
The program is a cohort-based online master's degree aimed at enriching the content knowledge of working history educators in global, European, US, and "systems" areas. Its expected students will be K-12 and museum/historical site history educators. Students will take two sequential online courses a semester for four semesters and participate in two summer institutes, including a final integrative writing project.
| 2. Describe the proposed instructional delivery systems (e.g., on-site instruction by faculty, interactive video, Internet, etc.). | |
Fully online courses (with a shared course shell) in semester. Summer institutes will be blended courses with a week spent on UNCW's campus.
| 3. Describe need for the program (referencing results of surveys or special studies). | |
No North Carolina institution offers a content-based online history MA for working history/social studies educators. Less than 5% of North Carolina Social Studies educators have Master's Degrees. There are many studies indicating the need for stronger content knowledge among history educators.
